Media/Data Safes or Record Fireproof Safes?
Record fireproof safes are designed to protect paper documents, cash, coins, and valuables. The Phoenix brand safes will also protect CDs, DVDs, USB Drives, and Memory Sticks.
Media/data safes are specifically designed, tested, and guaranteed to protect magnetic media. This includes DLT, LTO, and other backup tapes; hard drives; film such as 8mm, 4mm, 16mm, Kodak, MiniDV. If you have any of these items they MUST be in a data safe, otherwise they will be destroyed.
Data safes keep the temperature below 125°F inside the safe during a fire. A record fireproof safe keeps the temperature below 350°F (too hot for magnetic media). Media safes protect from magnetic interference, record fireproof safes do not. Media safes also keep the humidity level below 80% inside the safe during a fire.
Which Type is For Me?
Do you have magnetic media? That is DLT, LTO, and other backup tapes; removable hard drives; film such as 8mm, 4mm, 16mm, Kodak, MiniDV, etc. If you have any of these items they MUST be in a data safe, otherwise they will be destroyed.
Do you have CDs, DVDs, USB Drives, and Memory Sticks? A record fireproof safe will work if you select Phoenix Brand.
Do you have paper, cash, coins, jewelry (other than pearls), or other valuables NOT made of plastic? A record fireproof safe will work.
